Senior Band
The Simcoe Community Church Band is a group of people who who enjoy the fellowship of a brass band in the ministry of Christ through music. Our aim is to share the Gospel of Jesus with our community. To accomplish this, we are regularly seen at various locations and events around Simcoe and across Norfolk County.
Everyone thinks of a Salvation Army band at Christmas time and as a full band or small ensemble, we can be found at kettle stands or in nursing and retirement residences throughout the month of December. During the summer, we participate in 7 different cemetery decoration services across the county and we are honoured to be the duty band of choice at most Royal Canadian Legion and Army, Navy and Air Force remembrance events. We have been privileged to be the duty band for the Norfolk County Warrior’s Day Ceremonies since its inception in 1962.
The band is currently led by Bandmaster Ian Cooper who is in his 11 th year of leadership, following in the footsteps of his father Martyn who led the band for 11 years after Walt Wilson retired from leadership. The make-up of the band is diverse in age, including a great grandson and his great grandparents, a father, mother and 4 children, 2 sets of siblings, a World War II veteran, retirees and students and serves as a fellowship and support opportunity for many.
Every Sunday finds the band offering music leadership during worship services. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7-9 pm and feature a variety of music styles. Anyone is welcome to come and listen at rehearsal and if you are an instrumentalist, you are welcome to reach out to Band Master Ian Cooper to arrange participation in our group.
